The Fuerte has a traditional pear shape - thus the term 'avocado pear' - and a smooth, green skin. Fuerte avocados are usually medium sized.

The Summer Avocado season for Fuerte runs from May, or slightly earlier, to July. The fruit is grown in South Africa's Limpopo and Mpumulanga provinces, from where the first supplies we get in Britain come from, as well as the Kwazulu-Natal province.

This is the best known variety of avocado, and can have a light flavour early in the season.
